- Stelios Despotakis works as a Mental Health Counsellor in private practice and the Network of Social Solidarity and Psychological Support “SynYparxi”. He was trained in the Person-Centred Approach at the Institution for Counselling and Psychological Studies (ICPS), where he continues postgraduate studies in Psychotherapy. In addition, he has completed brief intensive training in Non-Violent Communication (Tunisia) and Conflict Resolution (Armenia) under Erasmus+ Programme.
His first degree was in Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol, UK (BEng – First Class Honours). He then began a Postgraduate Certificate in Mathematics Education at the University of Oxford.
Ideological differences with the prevailing educational system led him to Berlin, where he worked at the “Demokratische Schule X”. Since 2009, he has taught mathematics at a state school (King Alfred’s School, U.K.), at a private Lyceum (COSAT, South Africa), university students (U.W.A., Australia) and adults (Greece and Germany), and has facilitated young children’s learning (Mobile School Arsis, Athens & DSX, Berlin).
Last but not least, in 2013-2014 he spent a year living on farms/communities in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines), where he explored the concepts of Self-Organization, Permaculture and Meditation. In his "free" time, he likes to play: football, climbing, hiking, yoga, boardgames, music (piano, percussion instruments)… Δίκτυο Κοινωνικής Αλληλεγγύης και Ψυχολογικής Υποστήριξης “ΣυνΎπαρξη”. Είναι εκπαιδευμένος στην Προσωποκεντρική Προσέγγιση από το Κολλέγιο Ανθρωπιστικών Επιστημών ΙCPS, όπου και συνεχίζει με μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές στην Ψυχοθεραπεία. Επιπροσθέτως, έχει ολοκληρώσει σύντομες εντατικές εκπαιδεύσεις στη Μη-Βίαιη Επικοινωνία (στην Τυνησία) και στην Επίλυση Συγκρούσεων (στην Αρμενία) στα πλαίσια προγραμμάτων Erasmus+.
Οι πρώτες του σπουδές ήταν στην Αγγλία, όπου αρίστευσε στα “Μαθηματικά Μοντέλα” (BEng Engineering Mathematics – First Class Honours) στο University of Bristol. Στη συνέχεια, ξεκίνησε μεταπτυχιακό στη “Διδασκαλία των Μαθηματικών” (PGCE Mathematics) στο University of Oxford. H ιδεολογική του διαφωνία με το εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα τον οδήγησε στο Βερολίνο, όπου εργάστηκε στο εναλλακτικό, Δημοκρατικό Σχολείο “Demokratische Schule X”. Από το 2009 μέχρι σήμερα, έχει διατελέσει καθηγητής μαθηματικών σε δημόσιο σχολείο (King Alfred’s School, Αγγλία), σε ιδιωτικό λύκειο (COSAT, Νότια Αφρική), φοιτητών (U.W.A., Αυστραλία) και ενηλίκων (Ελλάδα και Γερμανία), αλλά και αρωγός παιδιών νηπιαγωγείου και δημοτικού (Mobile School, Arsis, Αθήνα & Demokratische Schule X, Γερμανία)
Τέλος, το 2013-2014 έζησε για ένα χρόνο σε φάρμες/κοινότητες στη Νοτιοανατολική Ασία (Ταϋλάνδη, Λάος, Μαλαισία, Φιλιππίνες), όπου εξερεύνησε τις έννοιες της Αυτο-Οργάνωσης, της Περμακουλτούρας και του Διαλογισμού. Στον “ελεύθερό” του χρόνο, του αρέσει να παίζει: αναρρίχηση, ποδόσφαιρο, πεζοπορίες, γιόγκα, επιτραπέζια, μουσική (πιάνο, κρουστά)…
